I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to inform you about an important new state law—Senate Bill 181—recently passed by the Kentucky General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Andy Beshear. This legislation introduces new standards for how school personnel communicate electronically with students. At its core, SB 181 aims to strengthen student safety, enhance transparency, and increase parental engagement.
🔒 What Does This Mean for Our Schools?
Effective this school year, all communication between Trimble County School District employees or volunteers and students must adhere to the following:
Traceable Communication Systems: All school-related communication must be conducted through district-approved platforms that can be monitored and reviewed. These systems allow parents to access their child's communication history with school personnel.
No Personal Accounts Without Consent: Use of personal text messages, emails, or social media messaging between staff and students is no longer permitted unless written parental consent is provided in advance. Parents can revoke this permission at any time.
Immediate Reporting: Any unauthorized or concerning communication will be reported and investigated promptly. If needed, the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board will be notified.
Parental Access: Within the first 10 days of each school year, parents will receive instructions on how to view and monitor communications with their child’s educators or school staff.
Family Member Exception: If a staff member or volunteer is a student’s family member, the law allows an exemption from these restrictions.
🛠️ Our Next Steps
Trimble County Schools is currently updating our communication platforms and procedures to align with this law. We will provide clear guidance to all families and staff before the start of the 2025–2026 school year. Our top priority is maintaining safe, supportive, and trusting learning environments for all students.
🤝 Partnering With You
We know that strong communication between home and school is vital. Senate Bill 181 gives us all—students, families, and educators—a framework to build that connection with greater confidence and clarity.
Please stay tuned for additional information, including detailed instructions on how to access communication logs and how to submit consent forms, if desired.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact my office directly or reach out to your school principal.
Thank you for your continued partnership in making Trimble County Schools a safe and supportive place to learn and grow.
Warm regards,
Todd Neace

Parent update on the situation at the high school. Students will be permitted to reenter the school at 2:50, which is close to the time to load buses. We are collaborating with the transportation department to minimize delays. Please be patient as we take steps to ensure our students' safety.

Attention Parents: This is to inform you that the fire alarm has been activated at the Jr/Sr High School. As a precautionary measure, the fire department has been dispatched. School principals have conducted a thorough walk-through of the building and have found no indication of a fire. We wanted to make our community aware of this situation and will provide updates as more information becomes available.

We would like to clear up misconceptions regarding rumors that are circulating in the community. One, there was not a firearm found in a student’s possession or even on school grounds. Two, there was not a student arrested. The student accused of posing a threat was removed from school for the safety of all students and for the investigation to proceed. Based on information obtained throughout the day, we have no reason to believe that any of our students were in danger. There is no confirmed or credible information regarding the “alleged” threat. However, we will continue to take precautionary measures to ensure our students’ safety. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Dear Parents, This morning at approximately, 8:45 am, high school administrators received information that alleged one of our student’s had threatened to bring a weapon to our Jr/Sr High School and open fire. Law Enforcement was called and the student was immediately removed from school. Thus far, into the investigation, the information has not been substantiated that a threat exists. The school is operating under its normal schedule and law enforcement will remain on school grounds the remainder of the day. The safety of our students is first and foremost! Please feel free to call TC Jr/Sr. High School with any questions or concerns.

Trimble County Schools will be utilizing a Non-Traditional Instructional Day on Friday, March 3, 2023. We are concerned about the forecast regarding high winds and possible tornado activity. Our conference call with the National Weather Service has advised that travel could be dangerous for high profile vehicles such as school buses. Therefore, we have made the decision to err on the side of caution tomorrow and use an NTI Day.
School personnel will be in contact tomorrow morning with students/families to communicate classroom information, assignments and answer any questions or concerns.
