The Athletic Code is governed by the Athletic Committee which consists of: all head coaches, the athletic director, and the principal,
When the need arises, the Athletic Committee must vote on certain issues. The votes are distributed in the following manner: Each member of the committee will have one vote. In the event a committee member serves two capacities; he/she will have only one vote. In the event of a tie vote, the principal’s vote will serve as the tiebreaker. Three-fourths of the Athletic Committee will be necessary for the quorum.
Trimble County Jr/Sr High School has based its rules and regulations concerning scholastic eligibility on the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Handbook.
BY-LAW 2. Responsibility for Eligibility
The principal of a school shall be held ultimately responsible in all matters in his/her school which concern eligibility and inter-school contests.
BY-LAW 5. Minimum Academic Requirement
A Student must be passing ⅔ of the classes they are currently taking, or 4 of 6 instructional hours/classes. Grades will be checked weekly by the athletic director/principal to determine if athletes are eligible to participate. No special recitations of tests are to be given for the purpose of making a student eligible. Student managers and any other student having an official connection with the athletic program shall come under this scholarship. Grade checks will occur on Monday afternoons for eligibility to run Tuesday through the following Monday.
PROPER GRADE LEVEL:
To be eligible for athletic competition in grades 9-12, a student/athlete must have been enrolled during the previous semester, which will include summer school, and must be at his/her proper grade level or to have passed at least six credits during the previous school year.
The season will be considered over after the team is dismissed by the coach following completion of the final game.
QUITTING A SPORT:
Student/athletes are expected to honor their commitment to their team. If a student athlete quits before his/her season had ended, then they shall not be allowed to participate in another sport until the sport in which they formally participated has officially ended. This rule goes into effect after the beginning of the first game of that season.
On days when school is in session, a student must attend classes at least one-half day as calculated by the office computer, in order to be eligible to participate in practice or game. Certain circumstances, deemed by the coaches, may be excusable (i.e. Dr.’s. note, death/funeral in the family).
As a representative of the school and community, student athletes must show exemplary behavior at all times.
1st Offense – Known and proven use or possession of controlled substances (drugs) during the sport season will result in immediate expulsion from and prohibition from all athletic participation for the duration of that season, and student must complete a drug counseling program to be eligible to participate in other sports during that school year.
2nd Offense – during the same school year will result in suspension from all athletic participation for one calendar year.
2. Trafficking/Distribution of drugs/alcohol will result in immediate expulsion from and prohibition from all athletic participation for the duration of two calendar years from date of infraction.
1st Offense – Known and proven use or possession of alcohol will result in suspension from all athletic competition until completion of an alcohol counseling program. Suspension is to include 2 weeks of games.
2nd Offense – Suspension from all athletic participation for 1 calendar year.
4. Tobacco/Tobacco Alternatives
1st Offense – Known and proven use or possession of tobacco (during season) will result in a 1 week suspension from athletic competition. An athlete must miss at least one game and no more than 2 games for this offense.
2nd Offense – Known and proven use or possession of tobacco (during season) then he/she is automatically dismissed from the team.
3rd Offense – Known and proven use or possession of tobacco (during season) then he/she is automatically dismissed from the team and all other athletic participation for the remainder of the school year.
All tobacco uses are cumulative
5. Team responsibilities will be left to the discretion of the individual coaches. The coach reserves the right to enforce additional guidelines for his/her program.
6. Personal hygiene and dress will be left to the discrepancy of the individual coaches and sponsors.
7. In the case of assignment by the principal of an athlete to ACEP for any suspendable offense or suspension from school, he/she will not be allowed to participate in sports (practice or games) for the period of time in ACEP or suspension.
8. In the event a student is placed in any alternative school, he/she will not be allowed to participate in any extra-curricular activity.
LOSS OF LETTER/AWARDS
The athlete, manager or any other participant, who leaves the team for any reason other than medical, will forfeit their letter/award for the season.
NOTE: ON ALL AWAY TRIPS WHEN STUDENTS HAVE RIDDEN BUSES, EACH STUDENT IS EXPECTED TO RETURN TO SCHOOL ON THE BUS WITH THE TEAM. THE ONLY EXCEPTION WILL BE WHEN A PARENT HAS REQUESTED, IN PERSON TO THE HEAD COACH OR COACH IN CHARGE, PERMISSION TO TAKE THEIR OWN CHILD HOME WITH THEM. NO STUDENT WILL BE ALLOWED TO RIDE HOME WITH ANYONE OTHER THAN HIS/HER OWN PARENT/GUARDIAN. THE PARENT/GUARDIAN WILL BE ASKED TO SIGN A STATEMENT VERIFYING THAT THEY ARE TAKING THEIR CHILD HOME WITH THEM. FOR TEAM MORALE ALL TEAM MEMBERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO RIDE THE BUS HOME.
