End of Year Updates

Happy Friday and Mother's Day Weekend MES Families,

We are officially down to the last five days of school. It's so hard to believe that our year is over and we haven't had children in our classrooms since March 13th. Our staff has been mourning the loss of seeing those smiling faces and hearing the chatter of voices every day. The school is a very lonely place without them. While there is no news on what summer will bring and the start of school in the fall, we are hopeful to welcome back new and returning children in August. District leadership will be working on how that will look and developing an entry plan that will address gaps in learning and ways in which to ensure that your child's social and emotional learning is supported. Please continue to use the TCPS app and follow us on social media for details over the next few months to ensure that you up-to-date on what next steps are.

The office will continue to be open during summer hours with Mrs. Jill and I being available to assist families with questions or concerns. At this time kindergarten registration packets are available in the office. We would like to have them back by May 20th. The teachers will then be able to develop class lists and set up a time for screening. A reminder from our school nurse that all incoming kindergarten students are required to have updated vaccinations and a vision and dental screening. Upcoming 6th grade students should also have updated vaccinations as well.

Student belongings are bagged and ready for pick up. Please plan to drop off student work no later than May 15th. Students should also return any classroom materials borrowed such as textbooks, leveled readers or books from the classroom library, and math manipulatives such as cubes or counters. Students should also return Chromebooks to the office, rented band equipment, and library books. If you need to make arrangements to return materials, please contact the office and we will assist you.

We couldn't have asked for better community support through all of this. Thank you for the outpouring of love and support that you have given our teachers and staff members through all of this and especially during teacher appreciation week. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Mrs. Shinn
