End of Year

April 24, 2020

Dear MES Families,

As we prepare to close the school year, we wanted to provide you with dates and logistics to ensure that you are prepared to successfully help your student complete and turn in their work, return technology, and to pick up student belongings.

The week of April 27th-May 1st will be the last week of packet distribution/completion. All classes have prepared and put final packets into their pick up boxes located in the lobby. We have had a very large percentage of those packets picked up already we only a few additional items that you may have arranged with your child’s teacher. If you are unsure of whether or not there is work here for your student, please reach out to your child’s teacher or call the office at 268-3322 and someone will assist you.

NTI Week 7 (May 4-8th) and week 8 (May 11-15th) students WILL NOT receive additional packets from their teacher. Instead, teachers will share fun activities like virtual field trips, scavenger or nature hunts, science experiments, and other hands-on activities that you may enjoy with your child. During these two weeks, teachers will be following up with families on any outstanding work in order to close the year.

The official last day for students will be May 15th. Staff will continue to work the following two weeks grading papers and preparing report cards to close out the year. We recognize that your student will not have had face-to-face instruction with a certified teacher and will not penalize your students for skills that they have not been taught or have had time to engage in deeper learning during this time. The district is working on a re-entry plan to ensure that learning gaps are closed and that students have exposure to key content that will allow them to continue to progress with their education. If you have specific questions or concerns about this, I invite you to call your child’s teacher or me and we are happy to assist you.

The last day for Food Service will be May 22nd.

IMPORTANT LOGISTICAL INFORMATION:

  • Student belongings will be bagged and labeled for pick up beginning the week of May 4th. If you need your child’s things prior to that we are happy to assist. Please contact your child’s teacher to arrange a day/time.

  • Chromebooks: All Chromebooks MUST be returned to the school upon completion of the Summit platform curriculum. We have set the end of year date for May 1st. Teachers worked to remove power focus areas and projects that your student would not have adequate time or instruction to complete. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND that your check-in with your child to ensure that they meet this date. Teachers will be reaching out to those students who are not projected to complete their work in time with a plan of action.

  • Chromebook Return: Please return your child’s Chromebook with their name and teacher labeled in a plastic bag. There will be a drop off inside of the office. Please contact your child’s teacher if you need to arrange for it to be picked up at your home.

As much as we hate how our year will be ending, we will continue to work to provide you and your family with updates over the summer including kindergarten registration dates and back to school dates. Please let us know if there are ways in which we can support your child during the summer with instruction. All of our adaptive software programs will be available for continued use over the summer. Please check with your child’s teacher if you need log in information.

Have a safe and blessed summer!
