Dear Trimble County School Families:

Trimble County Schools have been approved once again, to offer “Non-Traditional Instructional” (NTI) days, also known as RAIDER DAYS for the 2019-2020 school year. This means that Trimble County Schools will be allowed to deliver content to students so that they can learn at home on bad weather or emergency days when conditions prevent schools from being in session.  The NTI days will limit the interruption of learning that occurs due to school closings, because students will have assignments (either online or paper packet) that provide review opportunities and application of prior learning. Additionally, NTI days do not have to be made up at the end of the school year, provided that the students do their assigned work on RAIDER days.

Will an NTI day be used every time that school is cancelled for snow?     No, we will not count every snow day as an NTI day.  Trimble County Schools has been approved for up to ten NTI days for the 2019-2020 school year.  Therefore, the number of days used will depend upon how many days school is cancelled due to inclement weather.  If the winter season is mild and we don’t have to miss many days, the district may not use any of the NTI days that have been granted.

How will I know which snow day is a RAIDER day? Listen carefully to the District’s phone messages, text messages, radio/television, district website and social media regarding when school is cancelled.  You will be told when a day is a RAIDER day and on these days, students should follow the NTI plan for their school.  The schools will be sending out their NTI plans prior to Christmas Break.

What are teachers and staff doing on RAIDER days? As weather permits, teachers and staff will report to work and will be available on RAIDER days to assist students or parents by phone, skype, FaceTime or email.  The school plan will outline for you and your child how to get help to complete the assignments that day.

Do I have to have internet and access to a computer? No, it is not required that your child uses on-line assignments.  Assignments will also be provided in paper format.

How will students turn in their work on RAIDER days? Students will complete assignments through “snow day” packets or through on-line learning lessons. These lessons may introduce new content or offer skill reinforcement based on lessons previously taught.  Lessons will be turned in when the student returns to school from the snow break.

Be sure to watch for school specific information coming home with your child.
