Information regarding NTI/Raider Days.

Raider Days snow

Dear Trimble County School Families:

Trimble County Schools have been approved once again, to offer “Non-Traditional Instructional” (NTI) days, also known as RAIDER DAYS for the 2018-2019 school year. This means that Trimble County Schools will be allowed to deliver content to students so that they can learn at home on bad weather or emergency days when conditions prevent schools from being in session. The NTI days will limit the interruption of learning that occurs due to school closings, because students will have assignments (either online or paper packet) that provide review opportunities and application of prior learning. Additionally, NTI days do not have to be made up at the end of the school year, provided that the students do their assigned work on RAIDER days.

Will an NTI day be used every time that school is cancelled for snow?

Dear Trimble County Parents and Community Members:

With the release of these scores, Kentucky is unveiling its redesigned accountability system.  The goal is to ensure that students are well-rounded, transition ready, prepared with the knowledge, skills, and essential dispositions to successfully...

Trimble Co. Sheriff's Deptartment helping to keep Trimble Co. students safe! sheriff

Law enforcement from the Trimble Co. Sheriff’s Office provided training for the Trimble County School District this summer in preparing and making sure they know what to do in the event of an active shooting or intruder situation.

Trimble Co. District Employees gathered at Bedford Elementary School and the Trimble Co. JR/SR High School to learn more about what actions they can take in an active shooting situation.  It wasn't just presentations and discussions, the Trimble Co. Sheriff's Office took teachers into the classrooms and showed them first hand steps and resources that they can use to help protect the students. The staffs in each school were provided baseline knowledge, best practice and protocol and also some confidence in their ability to apply that knowledge in an intruder situation.

The training also provided insight into protocol the district can follow to help reduce the access that an intruder would have into the building.  As a result, visitor and parent check-in procedures were revised and will be implemented this school year.  We don’t want to inconvenience anyone with our new check-in procedures, but we feel it's our obligation to do everything we can to maintain the safety of our students.

The ‘Visitor Check-in Procedures’ can be found here.

Eclipse Update for Middle & High School Students Only

Solar Eclipse Viewing Update 8/16/2017 for Trimble Co. Middle & High School Students (only)

Our Solar Eclipse Viewing excitement quickly came to an abrupt halt yesterday afternoon for our secondary students when we received an emailed notification from our "Eclipse Sunglass" Vendor that stated they could not guarantee the authenticity of the sunglasses that we had purchased for our middle and high school students (Eclipse glasses for elementary students were donated from the local library).

Not only is this disappointing news but we quickly discovered as close as we are to the eclipse, there are not enough glasses available to buy in bulk for our students. However, we didn’t want to prevent any secondary students that have eclipse glasses from participating in the event. Therefore, if you want your middle or high school child to be able to participate in the outdoor viewing of the eclipse on August 21st, you will need to send in a permission form and a pair of eclipse glasses for your child to use during the eclipse. ONLY students that return a permission form and bring a pair of eclipse glasses will be permitted to go outside to view the eclipse. As stated in previous correspondence, for those that do not go outside for the viewing, alternative educational eclipse activities will be held inside during this time period and the eclipse will also be able to be viewed safely on media outlets within the school.

This change affects middle and high school students only. Elementary students will continue on as previously stated.

Permission Required to view Solar Eclipse eclipse

ECLIPSE NEWS...

On August 21, 2017, for the first time since 1918, a solar eclipse will be visible on a path across the United States. Our District will not be in the direct path of totality for the solar eclipse but will still get to experience this historic event. The Schools have been busy planning to make this event a unique learning experience for our students.

On August 21, 2017, all District students (with your permission) will be allowed to go outside and participate in activities and view the period of near totality (“Solar Eclipse Viewing”). As always, student safety is our top concern.

Student-Led Conferences

Dear Parent/Guardian:

We are excited to announce our first-ever student-led conferences!  The student-led conference process empowers the student to direct and report on his/her progress at school.  During the conference process, students will report on academic progress, discuss goals, review assessment data, and showcase examples of their school and course work.

The student-led conference process is much different from the traditional parent-teacher conference in which the teacher does most of the talking and the parent does the listening. Often, in such conferences, the student is not even present.  However, in this situation, the parent first conferences with the student, and then circulates to talk with individual teachers regarding their student’s progress.  Often, several conferences will be going on at one time within the same room.

We believe that the student-led conference process puts the responsibility for reporting learning where it needs to be and that is with the student.  We are pleased with the learning that is happening at TCMS and know that our students are eager to present their progress to their parents/guardians.

All conferences will take place in the Cafeteria, on March 23rd, 4-7 pm.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school.

Thank you,

TCMS - Raider Day Information

Our next snow day will be a Raider Day! Click Read More to get all the details.

Next missed day will be.... Raider Day!

The next school day that is missed due to snow or other will be Raider Day 1.  This will be our first “Non-Traditional Instructional” school day for the 2016-2017 school year. This means that students will be receiving assignments in advance that they are to complete at home on the missed school day….Raider Day.   Schools will be sending home and communicating information to assist your students on what will be expected and what work they need to complete if we have another missed day.

Keep in mind that Raider Days do not have to be made up at the end of the school year if the students complete their work.  So it is very important that students work hard to complete their assignments to the best of their ability.  Don’t forget that there will be staff on hand that can be contacted to assist your child with the assignments.

If you have questions or concerns at this time, please contact your child’s school office for more specific information.

Superintendent's Article 8-8-16

Dear Readers,

It is likely that moving forward over the next couple of months I will spend a lot of time writing about the Nickel Tax that is now set for election. I feel that it is important to use every opportunity available to me to assure that true facts are being released to the community. In a previous article I stated that it is the responsibility of every voter to know the facts on both sides of every issue. I hope to help with that process as much as possible.

Let me start by clearing up some myths, misstated information, and complete false statements concerning the nickel tax. (click on title to continue reading)

Early Dismissal Wednesday!

Dear Parents:

This past Saturday night our Trimble County High School Lady Raiders won the 8th Region Title for the 1st time in 35 years!!! The Lady Raiders defeated Simon Kenton High School by a score of 62-54 and have earned the right to compete in the Sweet 16 State Basketball Tournament. Our girls will play Campbell Co. High School Wednesday, March 9th, at 6:30 pm at Northern Kentucky University.

Due to the timing of the game and the travel time involved, Trimble Co. Schools will dismiss school at 2:00pm on Wednesday, March 9th.  An early dismissal will enable our pep buses and band buses ample time to safely travel to NKU.  It also provides more time for our students, and employees to travel and arrive in sufficient time to support our girls in State Tournament Play.

Each year, our calendar committee builds in extra instructional time to allot for delays and early dismissals so this one hour early dismissal will not have to be made up.

This is a great accomplishment for our school district and we hope you can join in as we show our support for our Lady Raider Basketball Team!

Get your tickets NOW... Lady Raiders are Going To STATE!!!

Snow Days and Make-Up Days FAQ
“The balance between providing a safe and healthy school environment and ensuring that children receive the instructional time they deserve is sometimes difficult to maintain. But, with thoughtful calendar planning, the struggle to meet the mandates of state law related to time in school can be eased.” - Kentucky Commissioner Terry Holliday, Ph.D.
